Let our writing consultants help support your students whose home language is something other than English. The consultants are trained to work with writers from all backgrounds, but several have specialized experience and background working with ESL speakers and writers.
The Writers' Workshop partners with staff and faculty in several ways inside and outside the classroom.
The Workshop supports your teaching efforts by consulting with students working on assigned papers or other writing projects, including research papers, essays, reports, UROP proposals, and theses or dissertations. Please see FAQs below for policies on working with your students. You may also want to add language to your syllabus (below) that directs students to the Workshop.
"We write to discover what we think." - Joan Didion
The Writers’ Workshop offers assistance to students seeking an undergraduate degree as well as those pursuing a graduate degree.
The Tutoring Center provides free, individualized tutoring to UMD students in a collaborative, supportive environment. Trained, qualified peer tutors offer one-to-one and group sessions to foster academic success in various courses and disciplines.
UMD’s Tutoring Center is an award-winning, student-helping-student program. Data from Tutoring Center surveys indicate both student users and tutors experienced heightened interest in their majors, improved scholarship, and increased overall satisfaction with UMD as a result of their participation in tutoring.
