UST 1000 is a first-year experience course that helps students make a successful transition to UMD, including making connections among one another, with their faculty, and to the campus. Most of the course offerings are for 1 credit, and several 2-credit versions are offered to include a special area of study based on the instructor’s expertise.
UST 1000 courses are taught by faculty and staff from all areas of the university. Instructors receive special training in pedagogical strategies and course content to increase student engagement and promote retention. The program collaborates with Orientation, Advisement, & Registration (OAR) and the Kirby Student Center to foster a seamless transition for students entering UMD.
